Three Tips for DIY Family Photos
Listen, I get that it’s not always possible to hire a pro.
You probably already know that your phone can capture decent stuff when you know what you’re doing, so let me help you.
Watch the highlights
Often, when photos are taken in harsh lighting, our phone cameras can’t auto-compensate enough. Use your phone's manual exposure settings to make adjustments before shooting, or find more even, soft lighting, such as under a porch roof or at the edge of some shade trees (watch for green cast from the trees).
Find a good angle
Get down low, overhead, or straight on with your subject. I know sometimes you don’t have a choice when things are moving quickly, but if you have time, move around to find a better, more intentional angle.
Be mindful of clutter
You don’t have to clean a room. You can actually reduce some of the clutter by moving yourself or the camera. It will bring more focus to the subject.
